Stop apologizing for ColdFusion

Ok, i'm calling on everyone connected to the ColdFusion community to stop apologizing for ColdFusion.  Nothing makes me cringe more than hearing a ColdFusion developer bring up the "ColdFusion is Dead" attack in order to defend ColdFusion.  The person you're talking to didn't bring it up... YOU DID.  In fact there is a good chance the person you are talking to has never heard of the charge leveled against ColdFusion.  You are tearing down ColdFusion to someone who knows next to nothing about the language and then trying to build it back up.   Please stop this practice.

Why not focus on how easy ColdFusion is to learn.  Do you know HTML?  ColdFusion is tag-based.  Do you know Java?  ColdFusion 9 scripting syntax is similar.  What about Rapid Applicaiton Development?  Add slick AJAX functionality without having to struggle with JavaScript libraries.  Generate PDFs, manipulate images and spreadsheets with ease.  Generate your database schema without a writing a line of SQL.  Talk about rapid prototyping.

I'm sure you can think of many more positive aspects of ColdFusion.  Let's lead the conversation with ColdFusion's strong points and leave the false claims of pundits where they belong, the trash.

So say we all. I totally agree with you on this. It's part of the reason, I typically don't respond to those types of opinions publicly.

    I agree!

I use ColdFusion at the University of Hawaii, and when everybody was saying that, I explained and showed them why ColdFusion was the best choice. Now 2 years later people here are starting to open there eyes up to ColdFusion!

First ColdFusion is easy to learn if you know basic html, and I have documented the code for the new developers coming in, and normally without help students with basic html/design skills are up and running with ColdFusion within days. I don't know any other server- side coding environments that can say this. Also, with build in ajax, creates pdf, and now works with Xcel, ColdFusion just gets better and better`-`

@Terry. I'm on season 2.5 of BSG via Netflix. A Fraking amazing show. I don't respond to the comments either. I don't mind if a few people want to refute false claims, but we should collectively forget it. Focus our energy and enthusiasm on what we all know is a great tool.

@John B. Glad to hear it. A new Dean of Technology came in to Santa Clara University Law and was pushing for a Word Press Blog install. I found Mango Blog and he commented how impressed he was with the tool. http://techlawforum.scu.edu/
