Is Amazon's Kindle App for the iPhone a gateway drug?
I finally got around to downloading the Amazon Kindle app for my iPhone. Good news i'ts free.
I logged in to my Amazon.com account and started browsing the "technology" title. I recognized the title "Here comes Everybody". I couldn't remember, but assumed I'd see the author interviewed on the Colbert Report. Stephen Colbert has had Malcom Gladwell, Biz Stone, Larry Lessig, etc pimping their latest books.
Anyway, they offered a free chapter. Wow! What a cool way to read a book. The iPhone screen is bright. You can even change the background color to a light brown like a older book. This was the perfect sampler for me. It centered around a young woman who lost her smartphone in a New York City cab and how her friend rallied the online community to pressure the NYPD to take action and get the phone back. You have to read it to believe it.
Now, why is this a gateway drug? I enjoyed reading one chapter on the iPhone. I enjoyed it so much that if I wanted to start reading complete novels I would look to the Kindle. Very smart Amazon. Thanks.... no really. Thanks! ;-)
